A little about this big island
Our island, while quaint, has all of the amenities a visitor could want. Be it a relaxing day spent on one of the country’s best beaches to golfing with the San Diego skyline at your back to taste testing the delicious restaurants, cafes and, of course, dessert shops lining Orange Avenue. For those new to Villa Capri by the Sea Coronado, we are conveniently located along the island’s main street and just minutes from all of the area’s most popular sites AND the ferry landing with access to downtown San Diego.
Our Beaches, Yes Plural!
There is no talking about Coronado Island without discussing the crown jewel of California’s crown jewel. Sitting just across Orange Avenue is the stunning, expansive Coronado Beach. Literally glistening in the sun (thanks to the mica in the sand), this stretch of beach pulls in visitors from around the world. Coronado Beach is a patrolled beach that features bonfire pits, volleyball nets, restroom facilities and even a new wheelchair ramp from the street to the water’s edge. It takes just one walk on the sand or dip in the calm waves to see why it was named the 2012 #1 Beach in the United States by Dr. Beach and a Top 10 U.S. beach by Parent’s Magazine. Chair and umbrella rentals are available in season.
In addition to the main section of Coronado Beach, there is the attached off-leash “Dog Beach,” Silver Strand and sandy sections next to the ferry landing. Kayak and paddle boards are available here.
Ready to explore the downtown area
Now that you have enjoyed another beautiful day at the beach, you will want to get out and explore the downtown Orange Avenue area. Get ready to do a little shopping at many of the boutique stores.
Our Historic Downtown
Be delighted by the quaint and charming, yet bustling Orange Avenue. Our “main street” has a little bit of everything with literally something for everyone. Villa Capri is located on Orange Avenue near the marina, yet is steps to some of the island’s most popular dining spots and shops including Brigantine Seafood, Cafe 1134, MooTime Creamery, Chez Loma, Stake Chophouse, Seaside Papery, Emerald City Boarding Source and Avenue … just to name a few! Did we mention the Lamb’s Players Theater, also known as San Diego’s boutique theater, is just 2 blocks from your suite?
Keep heading west along Orange Avenue, caffeinate at Clayton’s Coffee Shop, stroll through Spreckle’s Park, and let yourself get distracted by Coronado Brewing Co. before arriving at the other end of our island…
Our Ferry Landing
The beauty of Coronado is you can explore it all without ever needing a car. That counts for visiting downtown San Diego and experiencing all that America’s Finest City has to offer. Before cruising across the harbor, check out this area’s boutiques, restaurants and historic Centennial Park. It’s the perfect spot for a sunset dinner as you watch the San Diego skyline light up at dusk. The best view of all may be from the deck of a ferry. A quick ride drops you in the midst of it all, including the Gaslamp Quarter, restaurant hot spot Little Italy, and Seaside Village. You will also land steps from the historic naval aircraft carrier museum, USS Midway.
Where else will your day take you?
Wait, There is More?
There’s just no end to what Coronado has to offer! A yacht club, Glorietta Bay, the canals (gondola ride, anyone?), the Coronado Golf Course … you know what, we think it’s time you just come see for yourself.
