No matter who you are, you’ve experienced those moments of wondering where the days, weeks, even years have gone. So whether it’s your first vacation together or your 50th wedding anniversary, we remind you to rest, relax and reconnect. And we invite you to do so here on beautiful Coronado Island.
It’s going to be a FULL day, so make sure to stop by Cafe 1134 to fuel up properly. A local favorite, it’s almost unethical not to visit while here. It’s a friendly place, service is on point and, honestly, just a wonderful spot to people watch. Grab one of their many kinds of breakfast burritos (probably why they have stayed in business for fifteen years!) and a cup of coffee or loose leaf tea whichever is your … well … cup of tea!
After you’re sufficiently full, hit the links at Coronado Golf Course less than a mile from your Villa Capri doorstep. Ranked 5th in the nation for value by Golf Digest, it’s perfect for all levels. Golfers delight in the views from, it seems like, every hole and enjoy playing in the shadow of the Coronado Bridge. However, do golf with caution: the views are undeniably and beautifully distracting.
After a round, and utilizing the feeling of accomplishment, take a stroll down Orange Avenue. This street is quite literally inundated with shops, markets, galleries and boutiques. You need a nice bottle of wine? Orange Avenue. A new swimsuit? Orange Avenue. New outfit, flowers, jewelry, electronics, souvenirs? I think you get the gist of where this is going. If there’s time, catch a movie at the adorably vintage Village Theater about a half-mile from the hotel. “Okay, now it’s time to get back to the hotel and rest, relax with a book on our private patio or simply get ready for the exciting evening ahead!
It’s time to visit the other side of Coronado—which is also home to the Coronado Ferry Landing. Enjoy some of the ultimate San Diego skyline views as you enjoy a smooth (traffic-free) ferry ride to downtown San Diego. Disembark and then head straight to the city’s most popular dining destination, Little Italy San Diego. There is a reason behind the popularity of this neighborhood: It has one of the fastest growing native Italian populations in the United States and the only Little Italy in the United States that is INCREASING in size. And yes, you will actually hear Italian being spoken along the streets and by many of those in the delicious restaurants. There are so many delicious options to choose from in Little Italy San Diego, but for tonight’s outing, Civico 1845 is a restaurant not to be missed.
Two brothers, Dario and Pietro Gallo, after opening a restaurant in their home town of Cosenza, Italy, came to San Diego in 2015 to open Civico with much acclaim and success. Serving authentic, seasonal southern Italian fare, you will find locally and ethically sourced ingredients in dishes found currently in the province of their birth—Calabria, resting on the foot of the Italian peninsula. Try the burrata or any of the homemade pasta dishes…in case there may be a vegetarian on board, the menu has many options to cater to those who do not eat meat.
After dinner, if it’s early enough, take the ferry back to Coronado and either get a glimpse of the magical Southern California sunset from the ferry or make it to the beach to enjoy the memorable approach of twilight. You will have spent a day neither of you will not forget anytime soon.
